Register your livestock so a stray can be brought home
If your cattle, horses, goats, sheep or swine are found loose in Ellis County, a registered brand, ear tag or microchip lets a deputy contact you directly instead of the animal entering the estray process.
There is no fee, and your contact details and premises location are never shown publicly.
What you will need
Your contact details
A phone number and email address a deputy can reach quickly.
Where the animals are kept
The property address, plus a nearest crossroads if the place is hard to find.
Anything that identifies them
Brand, ear tag, microchip or RFID, plus colour and markings. Photographs help.
This is not the official brand registry. This is the Sheriff's Office supplementary registry, used to help reunite stray livestock with their owners. Registering here has no legal effect on ownership and does not record your mark or brand.
Official marks and brands are recorded by the Ellis County Clerk under Texas Agriculture Code ch. 144 (Marks and Brands), Sec. 144.041 (Recording of Marks and Brands). To record a brand you must register with the County Clerk in person or by mail.
Information in this registry is self-reported by the public and is not verified by the Ellis County Sheriff's Office.
